Steve D and I have volunteered to help organize some hikes for NewComers. If you've got a desire to do a particular hike or make sure that we get out on a particular day, feel free to suggest and/or lead a hike. Lead hiker should recommend a hike location, pick the meeting time and pick the meeting location. Just send an email to me or
hikers@new2logan.com. If you know you want to hike, but aren't sure about the location, you can still volunteer to lead one and have the group help you decide the location, etc.
Another option for hikes is to join up with Cache Hikers. I'm attaching their schedule. Thanks to Robbie for passing that along. They meet at the Smiths Market Place on 700 N and Main in the Southwest corner of the lot. I'm sure this is a great way to meet other hikers, including those who know a good bit about the area.
I've heard requests for two hikes, Old Juniper and White Pine Lake. I've picked Sundays to provide an alternative to the Cache Hikers who are usually meeting on Saturdays.
Sunday July 6 - Jardine Juniper, 5 mi one way, moderate difficulty. A popular local hike to the oldest known Rocky Mountain Juniper. Meet at the Ranger Station at 8:00 am. Lead: Whitney (703) 489-2651
Sunday August 3 - White Pine Lake, 3.8 mi one way, moderate difficulty. I'm hoping to catch the wildflowers at or near their peak. Meet at the Ranger Station at 8:00 am. Lead: Whitney (703) 489-2651.
-The meeting place for NewComer hikes is the Ranger Station parking lot at 1500 East Hwy 89 (400 N) unless otherwise noted by the hike lead.
-Please be on time. We will leave on time if we have all who RSVPed and wait up to 10 minutes for those who have RSVPed.
-Distances given are one way except for the loop and point-to-point trips.
-Bring adequate water, plus a lunch & trail snacks.
-Be prepared with adequate equipment for hiking and the weather. Layers, good hiking boots, rain gear, jackets, sunscreen, and bug stuff, etc.
-Feel free to contact me, the hike lead, or the group regarding the details of a particular hike.
-Difficulty ratings are usually from Jim Sinclair's guide. The ratings are easy, moderate, strenuous and very strenuous.
