Hi All,
The crisp fall air continues and is motivation to get out and up into
the mountains for gorgeous views out over Logan and the Cache Valley.
This Sunday's hike (8/5) will climb up the west side of Mt. Logan via
either Dry Canyon (strenuous) or Providence Canyon (less difficult). For
the Dry Canyon hike, we're looking at an approximately 6 mile (one way)
distance to the top and 4,500 ft of elevation gain; Providence Canyon is
shorter, 1,000 - 1,500 ft of elevation gain over 4 - 6 miles roundtrip.
We will meet at 8:30 AM on Sunday 8/5 at the Dry Canyon Trailhead.
Directions are from downtown Logan: Take Center Street east. It becomes
Mountain Road which makes a right onto Forest Rd 25 a few blocks below
the mouth of Dry Canyon and the Trailhead. Park at the cul-de-sac above
an upscale neighborhood near the sign that says "Devere and Velda
Harris' Nature Park and Reserve". The trail starts up the 4-wheel drive
road from there.
Directions to the Providence Canyon trailhead are: in Providence, go
south on 100 E which becomes canyon road. Follow the road up past the
old quary and then conyniue up until it looks good to start hiking.
Bring plenty of water and lunch and/or snacks. The upper reaches of Mt.
Logan can also be windy, so be prepared with a jacket or extra layer.
RSVP to hikers@new2logan.com <mailto:hikers@new2logan.com> or
david.rosenberg@usu.edu. Telephone: 755-3127. As always, we will wait 10
minutes past the scheduled start time for anyone who RSVPs.
See you Sunday!
David
