Orfeo by Jacopo Peri
Talk To Me Like The Rain And Let Me Listen by Larry Delinger
Based on a Tennessee Williams play
We start with the oldest opera with scenes from Jacopo Peri’s L’ Euridice. L’ Euridice was written in 1600 to celebrate the marriage of Maria de’ Medici to Henry V of France. It was created to subsequent operatic treatments of the classic Greek legend of two of the worlds most famous lovers. Love found, lost, regained and yet lost again through eternity.
The second part of the evening is the World Premiere of the operatic treatment of Tennessee Williams‘ one-act play, Talk to Me Like the Rain and Let Me Listen. After 30 years of negotiations with the Tennessee Williams Estate, composer Larry Delinger has been given permission to compose this piece which will have it’s World Premiere at Utah Festival Opera. Love crumbled in a world that doesn’t value compassion.
